We are looking for a creative and inspirational Design Engineer to join the global Home Care team here at our HQ in Port Sunlight, UK. If you want to be a part of a team working across some of the world’s biggest FMCG brands and shape their sustainable future, then we would like to hear from you.
Job purpose
As a Junior Design Engineer in Home Care you will work across multiple innovation and capability projects which reflect Unilever’s packaging and future technology strategy.
You will support projects within cross functional teams and be responsible for engineering future packaging, new technologies and novel formats such as laundry capsules, turning technically feasible concepts into mass manufacturable products.
Responsibilities
- Partner with internal teams to develop packaging ideas and future technologies to deliver to brand / R+D ambition
- Use engineering tools (CAD, simulation and prototype) to develop and validate ideas taking them from concept to production with rigour
- Design of experiments and technical analysis to create design rules for product formats such as capsules and future packaging materials whilst.
- Using engineering processes and skillsets to fault find and problem solve.
- Support the engineering of consumer-facing packaging & product formats considering aesthetics, functionality and mass manufacturing constraints
- Work closely with creative and technical partners to land new innovations
All about you
- Degree in product design, mechanical design or similar, with a good understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing techniques.
- Experience in a design engineering role
- Experience creating 2D technical drawings and managing structured data
- Strong 3D CAD design skills with expertise in parametric solid and/or surface modelling. (We use Unigraphics NX, but Solidworks, CREO etc would be welcome).
- Relevant experience supporting component design and engineering. Experience in plastic packaging components, paper and board packaging and/or novel product formats such as capsules is preferred but not essential.
- Good knowledge of the application and interpretation of CAE simulations including FEA, Moldflow and/or CFD. Ability to conduct and analyse simulation results would be an advantage.
- A creative, logical and analytical mind to generate innovative design solutions to technical design problems.
- Must be used-to be working as part of multi-disciplined teams
- Strong communicator and influencer
- A passion to learn and willingness to develop new skills
- An eye for detail
- Proven project experience with ability to meet deadlines
