    The chosen candidate will work closely with our team responsible for the support and development of a mission critical Command & Control system, focusing on the testing of the applications that form a key part of the managed service provided to our client. As one of the team, the chosen candidate will perform productive work throughout most of their placement year and contribute to the success of the managed service and client.

    Key responsibilities

    Working in a mission critical environment, in which the team provides support and development, the role will involve liaising with colleagues at all levels including Project Managers, Software Developers, Application Testers as well as Subject Matter Experts.

    The candidate will develop a range of technical, professional and transferrable skills, including:

    • Developing an understanding of business requirements and how this translates in to a technical solution
    • Developing a capability and understanding of test estimates
    • Performing tests on software changes to ensure the criteria of the changes are met or identifying and communicating potential defects
    • Documenting and contributing to, for example, test scripts, test reports

    You will be successful in this role if you have

    Key qualifications

    • Successfully completed Years 1 and 2 of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent
    • Degree course should be Business / IT oriented

    Key skills

    Technical skills:

    Essential (at least two of the following):

    • Problem solving and analytical skills
    • Interest/Experience of software testing
    • Interest/Experience of software development lifecycles, including Agile or “Waterfall” frameworks
    • An interest in complex IT systems

    Desirable:

    • Should be proficient in the use of MS Office

    Personal attributes

    Essential:

    • Open to working in a managed service environment in the capacity of a tester in a development and support team
    • Practical attitude, self-motivated and the desire and aptitude to pick up and develop new skills
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Good customer / telephone manner as will be expected talk to senior internal stakeholders
    • Problem solving / reasoning skills
    • Has a natural curiosity for technology
    • Able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment or as an independent contributor

    Desirable:

    • Having knowledge or awareness of test automation techniques would be advantageous
