Avantor is looking for a science-savvy and flexible Junior Bio-Bank Scientist, to join our team based in Cambridge, UK. In this position, you’ll assist managing the storage and supply of human tissue samples for the Innovative Medicines Group and work with multiple Biobanks in the UK and Sweden. Your time will be divided between computer-based tasks (60% of you time) and laboratory (40% of your time).

This role will be a full-time, temporary (12 months) position based in a brand-new facility at the customer site - The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. The team

You'll join a close-knit team of five Biobank Scientists. The team is processing, registering, and re-labelling incoming human tissue samples and making sure they are available for Scientists.

You’ll belong to our business department Lab and Production Services, which supports leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories all over the world, in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.

What we’re looking for

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in science related discipline, or equivalent experience preferable
  • Experience: Sample Management experience is preferable, but we also will consider graduates who are interested in getting experience in Bio-bank and dealing with many samples daily
  • Preferred qualifications:
  • Great attention to details
  • Computer literate and proficient in using various computer software

How you will thrive and create an impact

  • Samples handling and making sure the samples are received, inventoried, logged, labelled, stored, tracked, dispatched, returned and/or disposed
  • Maintaining the inventory of Human Biological Samples in accordance with Good Clinical Practice
  • Tracking all work-in-progress using specialised informatics systems as well as databases
  • Responding to internal and external customer queries via e-mail or telephone
  • Maintaining compliance by monitoring and following-up on key dates (e.g. end of check-out period for samples)
