Avantor is seeking a driven Laboratory Technician to join our team in Cambridge, UK. In this role you'll be supporting research and development functions within a laboratory environment. In this role, you’ll be responsible for supporting scientists with the preparation of formulation reagents, routine maintenance and calibration of lab equipment and general lab organisation.
This is a full-time temporary (12 months) position at The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Along with a competitive salary, we offer a variety of benefits, including a pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an additional day off for your birthday.
The team
As a Laboratory Technician at Avantor, you’ll be part of a dynamic and multi-disciplinary team that directly supports scientists across R&D functions. This role focuses on providing essential scientific technical support, enabling researchers to concentrate on their core work. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the laboratory operates efficiently and safely. Avantor’s Lab and Production Services business supports leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.
What we’re looking for
- Education: A degree in biological sciences or equivalent laboratory experience is desirable, but we also will consider candidates with five GCSEs including Maths, English, and one Science subject
- Experience:
- Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential - enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are key.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
- Clear, concise written and spoken communication skills, with a proactive approach to teamwork
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
How you’ll thrive and create an impact
- Ensure accurate formulation and preparation, maintaining up-to-date batch records for all reagents
- Monitor stock levels of critical reagents and consumables and ensure availability of necessary supplies for laboratory work
- Perform calibration and basic maintenance of lab instruments according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Assist with the preparation of materials and equipment ahead of large formulation studies
- Maintain a well-organized and safe working environment, coordinating monthly lab cleanings and ensuring compliance with temperature-controlled storage protocols
