About the role
You will be joining our Dynamic Network Management (DNM) team at a hugely exciting time, as we look to develop our DNM capability and improve the performance of our industry leading and innovative technology solution to managing wastewater flows and prevent the impacts to customers and environment that we see and hear so much about in the media.
Our DNM system consists of a widely deployed sensor network which utilises machine learning and discrete logic based alerts to tell us when something is starting go wrong in our Network. We have the technology and systems in place and we want you to help us develop it to its full potential.
The role will involve you partaking in and leading on things like:
- Reviewing alert performance and making proposals for how we could respond quicker or identify failure earlier
- Working and engaging with all manner of internal and external teams to develop our operational process' and governance procedures as we transition to adopting DNM as a business as usual system
- Embedding operational change in a large organisation
- Learning and testing new skills to identify root causes of problems, identify the key factors that need addressing and developing business cases for approval then seeing the changes through to delivery
- Developing our bespoke web based platform to make it intuitive and useful for obtaining the insight we need to manage the Network
- Measuring the effectiveness of our system and identifying where we have gaps in process', systems or skills
- Testing what other technologies are available in the market place that can be integrated in to our supplier agnostic solution
We have a really dedicated and passionate core team working on DNM, we work collectively and in a matrixed manner to influence what information we need and what we deliver across all areas of our organisation and beyond.
You'll receive a structured 12 month placement programme which will cover a variety of areas within the DNM team.
Don't worry, we won't throw you in at the deep end. You'll have mentors and managers with you as you progress through your placement and support you as you work towards your personal development goals.
Who you are
You'll be joining a team based at the United Utilities head office in Warrington and an organisation just voted the 19th best place to work in the UK as voted for by users of Glassdoor. You'll enjoy life on our leafy campus surrounded by over 2,000 colleagues who all help to provide great service for our 7 million customers.
- You will be aiming for a minimum of a 2:1 in any environmental sciences degree and a student in your penultimate year at university.
- You should possess excellent written and interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate and influence across all levels within the organisation.
- You must be motivated and enthusiastic, understand the importance of teamwork and possess ambition and drive to succeed and make the most out of your 12-month placement.
- You should be able to be comfortable working flexibly across a range of tasks and activities to deadlines, be able to prioritise your time and be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

When you join our intern scheme you'll receive a good salary, and you'll also be eligible for a bonus of up to 7.5%.
