    This is a training role developing the successful candidate into a Data Engineer. You'll make a significant contribution to all aspects of analysis, development and support of an enterprise scale business intelligence environment.

    You'll need to create and maintain business information products for our internal users, with a focus on timely, accurate and consumable information that enables key decision making. You'll ensure development work complies with the overall framework resulting in an ability to quickly and simply modify existing solutions to meet new requirements.

    Job accountabilities

    You'll be responsible for: Demonstrating clear lineage of business metrics from source systems to end user dashboards. Developing deployment scripts to maintain source control over objects deployed to the data environment. Performing non-routine maintenance activities to assure ongoing performance and availability. Applying a detailed knowledge of documentation standards to maintain library of appropriate functional, technical and operational documents. Carrying out peer reviews in line with quality methods and may review outputs of contributors from employees in business units. Providing advice and guidance to junior team members for the relevant technologies and standards. Working with third parties in provision of support and development activity. Working with customers/users to identify service improvements.

    The level of expertise for each accountability will vary, depending on the role level.

    • Communications - You'll learn to understand, interpret and clarify user's requirements. Convert requirements into logical and physical data models which integrate with the existing landscape. Communicate complex and technical information in simple and accessible language for non-technical audiences.
    • Data Modelling - You'll learn to understand different approaches to data modelling and be able to produce data models understanding their appropriateness for different scenarios.
    • Problem resolution - You'll learn how to resolve data problems such as issues with data visualisations; implementing changes when source systems alter the way they advertise their data or making enhancements to existing data models. You will log, analyse and manage such problems and find solutions to meet the customer's satisfaction.
    • Data integration - You'll learn how to develop and implement fit for purpose data services which meet user's needs including understanding how to expose data from source systems and build data pipelines which integrate into data products in a resilient manner.
    • Development lifecycle - You'll understand and learn how to follow an existing development lifecycle including collecting user requirements, design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and enhancement.
    • Metadata management - You'll learn what metadata is and how to maintain various metadata repositories in order to support the organisation managing its data assets.

    Knowledge and skills

    This is a training role developing the successful candidate into a Data Engineer. Whilst not a requirement for this role, a relevant degree in subjects such as maths, physics or economics are highly desirable.
