Role overview
You will categorise and map all potential pollution risks in our borehole Safeguard Zones and along the Llangollen Canal with a handheld device using ArcGIS applications e.g. Collector, Survey123 and Field Maps. You will help to develop and improve the data collection software as this new method of data collection is rolled out to the team. You will be the link between our GIS and catchment teams helping to advance each other's understanding.
You will use the data collected in the field to create risk based catchment maps to link with other areas of the business including Drinking Water Safety Plans (DWSP) and MyRisk. This data will be collated in the office to develop catchment risk scores to highlight areas of highest risk and provide information for future funding and engagement.
You will be using ArcGIS Online to upload, view and create maps to use both in the field and in the office. We currently have 3D models and aerial photography from one of our contractors which will need to be incorporated into the catchment risk mapping.
Knowledge and skills
What we are looking for:
- You will be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline such as Geographical Information Systems or Geography and/or demonstrable proven relevant experience.
- You will demonstrate good proficiency and working knowledge in applied GIS, GIS, Geography, Geoinformation technology and cartography and a solid foundation in ArcGIS desktop software and extensions.
- We will need you to demonstrate a sound understanding of spatial data structures.
- You need to be a good problem solver with strong numeracy, organisation skills and have good attention to detail skills.
- Ideally you will have some environmental and agricultural knowledge although training will be provided.
- You will be happy to work alone in a rural landscape, utilising our lone worker systems, as well as in the office environment.
- You will need your own car with insurance for work use.
