    About The Role

    As a Data Scientist II, you will play a key role within the newly formed and growing Optum UK Data Science Unit (DSU). The DSU, in collaboration with the UK Product Team, is responsible for generating new and augmenting existing products that solve important problems faced by the healthcare system. 

    Your responsibilities will include

    • Process and analyse large, complex healthcare datasets.  
    • Build engaging functional visualisations to display data processing and analysis outputs to end users. 
    • Research and apply data science methods to support the development of products that solve important problems faced by the healthcare system. 
    • Work with autonomy and in collaboration with other team members, including data scientists, analysts, developers, business leaders, and clinicians to contribute to the strategic goals of the DSU and UK Product Team. 
    • Be a passionate expounder of the scientific method, a founding pillar of the DSU. 
    • Support more senior team members and product development teams, while leading on product subcomponents related to analytics and data science.

    Required Qualifications

    • BSc (Hons), or equivalent, in a quantitative discipline. 
    • Experience in creating functional visualisations with e.g., Dash, Shiny, Tableau, Power BI. 
    • Programming skills in SQL and one or more of R, Python, Scala. 
    • Ability to deal with multiple priorities. 
    • Astute attention to detail and the integrity to openly report issues in a timely fashion. 
    • A passion for solving problems and making a difference in healthcare with data science. 
    • A willingness to develop new data science skills for personal and organisational growth. 

    Desirable Qualifications/Experience

    • MSc in a quantitative discipline. 
    • Experience of gathering requirements from, and documenting processes for, end users. 
    • Experience working with healthcare data. 
    • Experience in building strong business relationships as a trusted partner.
