The A Side: A Day in The Life
UMG’s Global Insight team manages the most powerful and effective data sets and research capabilities in the music industry. As well as utilising sales, commercial/partner data, and social media analytics, the Global Insight team manages extensive consumer data from around the world, delivering unique detail into evolving attitudes and behaviours of today’s music consumers.
The Artist Insights & Strategy team leads strategic insights and research for Universal Music Group’s esteemed record labels and business units. Our department supports marketing, commercial, and A&R label teams for a range of international artist brands; from emerging acts to global superstars to catalogue acts.
In addition to working on projects for US/UK global priority acts, a key focus of this role will be to support local marketing teams (e.g. LATAM, the Nordics, Asia, mainland Europe) with their local artist priorities. As such, a passion and knowledge of artists / music trends further afield is required.
The B Side: Skills and Experience
Be Analytical
- Conducting analysis using multiple data sources (e.g. commercial / sales data, social media analytics, cultural trends, desk research)
Be Collaborative
- Supporting Senior Analyst on a day-to-day basis with:
- Quantitative research design – supporting survey set-up, questionnaire writing, and material sourcing,
- Qualitative research planning – recruitment set-up, discussion guide writing, and stimulus creation
- Data entry – ensuring databases are accurate and regularly updated
Be Creative/Strategic
- Project brainstorming / ideation / artist brand analysis
- Developing reports and outputs for our clients – leveraging insights, creative & strategic thinking throughout development, building powerful narratives with multiple data sources
Person Specification
Necessary
- The ability to create clear, structured, and visually compelling Keynote (or equivalent) presentations
- Proficiency in MS Pack Office and social analytics (or equivalent)
- Excellent analytical and research skills. Experience to include (but not limited to) social media listening tools analysis, survey set-up and design, analysis (e.g. cross tab analysis), data visualization, report writing
- Comfortable with large data sets with an ability to bring data to life in an intelligent and compelling way (storytelling)
- Well versed with creating themes and summarizing survey responses and/or social media conversation
- The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Be able to prioritize, work to tight deadlines and have a strong sense of initiative
- Passionate about research and analysis, as well as a passion for music / entertainment and pop culture
- Naturally curious and inquisitive about consumer behavior
- Strong attention to detail, organization skills, project management
- Strong communication and writing skills
Desirable
- SQL knowledge
- Survey scripting
- Basic/advanced knowledge of the Adobe suite including Photoshop (or equivalent) is a plus
- Ability to speak a second language
