    UCLan Publishing has been operating at the university as a Children’s and Young Adult Fiction Publisher since 2010. The Publishing has grown significantly from its roots as a student experience enterprise and is now university-supported commercial publisher in the North-West of England. Maintaining its strong connection to student experience and public engagement, UCLan Publishing promotes northern writers, illustrators and publishers, enabling effective networking on behalf of its many stakeholders locally, nationally and internationally. UCLan Publishing also energises reading in the region, conducting regular talks with local schools and nurseries, bringing published authors into Schools to promote reading for pleasure.

    The role

    We are looking for an assistant to support our Creative Team. Working across editorial and design, the successful candidate will have a meticulous approach to work, with a keen eye for detail. They will need excellent IT and design skills with an advanced knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. This is a fantastic introduction to the day to day running of a small independent publishing house.

    Tasks will include: admin support including royalty reports and invoice processing, managing mailings, copy writing, proof checking, creating resources, POS and social media assets, helping run events, accompanying authors and illustrators to events, and maintaining and updating the UCLan Publishing website.

    Internship overview

    The Creative Assistant Internship offers an opportunity for an aspiring publisher to learn core aspects of the business and gain hands on experience of the Publishing every day, gaining practical skills and benefiting from valuable mentorship. Collaborating with industry experts on real-world projects offers the intern meaningful contributions, promoting networking opportunities and skills’ development.
