    Are you a graduate or current student at the University of Cumbria who would like to gain valuable work experience through an internship with a local company?

    You will be employed by the University to support Twoey Toys Ltd with the design and development of an innovative range of furniture and storage solutions suitable for the education sector. This opportunity requires someone with an interest and experience in market research and design.

    What we're looking for

    We are looking for someone who has excellent research skills to conduct a market analysis of the educational furniture sector and to provide design ideas for a new and innovative product range (maximum of 5 items) for production at the company’s Wigton site.

    Most of this work will be desk-based and is an exciting opportunity to provide critical information and support to inform the future development of Twoey Toys product range. You should be a self-starter with strong oral and written communication skills and an interest in sustainable furniture design.

    Now is a very exciting time to be joining us as an intern researcher. In a recent study University of Cumbria has been ranked third in the north for students to start or manage a business and 5th in the country for graduates who went on to hold senior leadership positions (Hitachi Capital Invoice Finance, 2020).

    The Capital on Tap study, (2021) shows that the university, alongside prestigious institutions such as University of Oxford and London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE), is producing a higher percentage of c-suite executives than other UK universities.

    In 2020, the university was also ranked as amongst the best in the UK for graduate employment and top in the Northwest with 96% of students getting a job or going on to further study within 15 months of graduating.     The post is part time for a total of up to 140 hours and the overall project is to be completed by the end of June 2023. This is a flexible working opportunity, which can fit around student studies and work/home life commitments.

    This role will involve remote working with very occasional travel to Carlisle for meetings – COVID-19 restrictions may apply. Reasonable travel expenses will be paid and there is also the opportunity for the successful candidate to apply to the University of Cumbria’s Bright Futures fund for a travel bursary to help with travel expenses if required (£100 allowance available).
