Employ.ed on Campus internships are ONLY open to 2nd year to penultimate year undergraduate students from the University of Edinburgh based in the UK.

The School of Engineering seeks to appoint up to 2 Remote Labs Project Interns. These positions will report to the Technical Services Manager (TSM) within the School and will work as part of a small team of technical, research and academic staff through summer 2023 on site at Kings Buildings.

These roles are UE03 (or equivalent) and are available on a fixed term basis for 10 weeks.

    The Opportunity

The School’s digital education innovations in remote laboratories are important for improving the student experience in a cost-effective manner. Their development proceeded at an accelerated rate over the last few years owing to the pandemic and the associated demand to remotely deliver interactive laboratory experiments and experiences to students.

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint two motivated and talented interns to join a skilled team of staff in the design, development and manufacture of remote laboratories. The current phase of the project requires a review of existing designs, development of new designs for the boxes and experiments and documentation of processes and procedures.

Working with the technical team based in the Electronics Teaching Labs (Kivlin Suite; Fleeming Jenkin Building) and Mechanical Engineering Teaching Labs (Sanderson Building) on the King’s Buildings campus and the remote laboratories project team (including, Prof. Drysdale) the interns’ primary objective will be to contribute to furthering this exciting project through engineering design and manufacture.

These internships offer the chance for student interns to acquire significant hands-on technical work experience as part of a team of highly skilled technical staff in support of this exciting and innovative project. It is anticipated that while the interns will collaborate on certain activities, each intern will be assigned a specific area of work that fits with their interests, knowledge and experience.

A positive and flexible approach is a requirement of these roles, with interns participating in a range of activities across the School of Engineering’s laboratories and workshops.
