Applications are invited for a Post Doctoral Research Assistant in the area of Medicinal Chemistry to work in the group of Prof Craig Jamieson at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow).

    The role

The PDRA recruited will work as part of a multi-disciplinary drug discovery team focused on the development of novel Androgen Receptor blockers for the treatment of resistant forms of prostate cancer. The programme is carried out in close collaboration with the group of Professor Iain McEwan (University of Aberdeen), as well as colleagues providing in vivo and biostructural support in The Netherlands and Spain, respectively. The overall objective of this ambitious programme of work is to a high quality lead series with demonstrable efficacy in animal models of resistant prostate cancer, providing confidence in the concept that a pre-clinical candidate can be identified upon further optimisation. The aim of this Research Assistant Position will be in the design, synthesis and evaluation of a novel series of AR receptor blockers based on a screening derived hit. Biochemical, biophysical and DMPK measurements will be used to select lead exemplar compounds for further evaluation in appropriate models.

    Responsibilities

The Research Assistant, alongside PhD and other PDRA workers assigned to the project will design and enable the synthesis of novel small molecule inhibitors of the Androgen Receptor. This will require a thorough grounding in synthetic organic chemistry, allied with experience of array synthesis approaches, as well as associated purification and analysis techniques. From consideration of biological data generated by programme team colleagues, the PDRA (with input from the PI) will lead on the design and synthesis of new compounds which meet agreed lead candidate criteria. Direct experience of academic or industrial medicinal chemistry is an advantage but not considered essential. The PDRA is expected also to engage in knowledge exchange processes with Aberdeen colleagues and other external partners as appropriate, as well as assisting in the administrative duties associated with the group of Prof Jamieson at the University of Strathclyde.
