The role

UPM Caledonian Paper is looking for a Science / Process Engineering Student to join our Development Team in Irvine, Ayrshire on a three months fixed term contract.

This is a placement to carry out a project related to capture of biogenic CO2 and monitoring of process effluent. The project area will include working with some novel carbon capture equipment related to the two-year Flue2Chem project. The placement time period is from 17th June to 30th August 2024. The successful candidate will work in the Development department alongside graduate Process Engineers.

What you will do

  • You will support the process optimisation of a pilot carbon capture unit which will be installed at UPM Caledonian during the period of the placement
  • Monitoring of process operation
  • Collecting of samples related to the process
  • Recording and analysing process data
  • You will support a Mill target to reduce process effluent losses
  • Collection of mill-wide process effluent samples
  • Measurement of relevant effluent properties
  • Data analysis to provide information on process losses

  • You are studying a science or engineering subject at university
  • You have some experience of working in a laboratory
  • You have good communication and teamworking skills
  • You are resilient and able to work effectively with key stakeholders
  • You have a desire to learn about new processes
