    Become one of our 34 International Trainees at Vattenfall. Each of the trainee positions is unique, linked to a department within a specific business area and a working location. This means that each position has its own specific responsibilities, challenges and matching profile.

    Next to your personal development in this unique position you will be enjoying one year of all we have to offer. Your trainee year will be filled with meetups with your international trainee team with likeminded individuals. You will be meeting up virtually to work on assignments and live during four seminar weeks where you will be visiting our power plants and growing your superpowers with a variety of trainings.

    Your role as a Trainee Commercial Analyst

    In your role as Commercial Analyst, you will become part of our Vattenfall Heat UK Business. Vattenfall Heat UK is positioned to become one of the largest district heating operators in the UK. At its core, we provide low and zero-carbon heating and cooling solutions for private developers and public sector clients.

    As a Commercial Analyst, you will work across the commercial operations of the business. As such, you will play a critical part in enabling the business to win large, long-term contracts, as Vattenfall moves to become the market leader in UK low-carbon energy infrastructure. You will be a key asset in driving critical decisions throughout the entire project lifecycle, from bidding to construction, and through to optimising operations.

We offer the opportunity to finesse analytical and financial modelling skills, whilst building an understanding of commercial risk positions, legal contract negotiations through to close, and risk management approaches.

    Your daily activities

    • Financial modelling for multi-million pound investments
    • Conducting commercial and investment analysis for project structuring and pricing to secure major infrastructure contracts
    • Working with project teams and engineers to develop presentations for risk and investment committees
    • Maintaining the process for robust quantitative analysis, ensuring ‘the numbers are run right’
    • Post-contract award, working in project teams, providing the quantitative analysis needed during negotiations and secure investment from funding committees
    • Distilling complex information into succinct clear summaries for decision making
    • Supporting production of bid deliverables and attendance at client meetings to negotiate contracts
    • Support business planning work and analysis of other growth opportunities that may arise (e.g. M&A or business diversification

    • Academic degree within a relevant area (Economics, Finance, Engineering or an MBA)
    • Highly competent in Cashflow Modelling
    • Proficiency across Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
    • Understanding of Financial Theory
    • Strong communicator (written and verbal) with strong interpersonal relations skills
    • A very strong doer and hands-on person, wiling to learn and easily adjustable to changes

    In addition, we would welcome applicants demonstrating some or all of the following attributes

    • A high-performing individual with a drive and self-motivation to successfully accomplish what is set to be done
    • Passionate about being part of the transformation taking place in the shift to a zero-carbon energy sector
    • Analytically astute, with drive as a team player that helps everyone else to be better at what they do
    • Passionate about setting up something new, building new processes and setting new standards
    • Flexible and available to adjust to changes, curious and versatile in seeking solutions and problem solving
    • A keen eye for detail but able to see the big picture and understand the impact of commercial positions and financial returns on risk management and decision-making

    You are our ideal trainee if you are a recent graduate with an academic degree and have maximum one year of work experience, or you graduate before September 2024. You are fluent in English. Skills in other world languages can be a merit. You are willing to relocate for possible assignments throughout the organization. And of course, you identify yourself with our principles: active, open, positive and safe.

    You will be working in the Heat UK department and the position is located in London.

Selection period starts after the application period is closed with online tests followed by interviews in February/March. We kindly ask you to use the same email address during the whole process (application, online test, assessments) otherwise there is a risk that your application is excluded due to system reasons.

    An assessment is also part of the recruitment process and will take place in the end of March. The recruitment process will be finalized in April. The last step will be a pre-employment screening. Starting date of the Vattenfall International Trainee Programme will be September 2nd, 2024.
