We provide a wide range of reporting, compliance and energy management services using our proprietary software Carbon DesktopTM, in conjunction with an experienced consultancy team and latest analytics.

About this role

As a Junior Consultant you will work within project teams to deliver sustainability consultancy services to corporate clients, with a focus on climate change and the energy transition.   Verco’s clients are typically multinational manufacturing companies with energy intensive operations and long supply chains.   We work closely with the sustainability teams of the companies, supporting them to develop climate strategy, achieve reductions, report on progress and manage climate risks.   

Project Management

You deliver required inputs according to time, quality and budget requirements.  In time, you take on responsibility for project work streams and small-scale consulting projects.   

Technical input

 You provide technical input and high-quality insightful data analysis to projects to support the ongoing sustainability/energy management challenges faced by our clients.    

Team working and client interactions:  Maintain strong relationships with fellow employees and clients through professional interactions.   

Operational

Provide timely responses to operational needs including time-sheeting, invoicing, reviews, project management information, health & safety, etc.    

Performance targets

To take responsibility for meeting targeted levels of personal performance and productivity.

What you bring to us

Here are the key things you need to be able to demonstrate, plus some others that are great to have but not essential. 

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential: 

  • Degree (or equivalent) in applied or pure sciences such as engineering, mathematics, geography natural sciences, economics, and physics with a minimum 2:1 classification. 

Desirable: 

  • Masters or other relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g. clean energy / sustainability / business)                              

Employment Experience 

Essential: - 

Desirable: Some experience of supporting/advising clients on technical issues associated with energy efficiency 

Knowledge & Understanding 

Essential: 

  • Awareness of the GHG Protocol emission scopes 1, 2 and 3.                            
  • Awareness of key GHG reduction levers in manufacturing and associated supply chains. 
  • Knowledge of wider sustainability issues & carbon management 

Desirable: 

  • Awareness of GHG emissions sources in corporate supply chains, such as industrial processes agriculture, raw materials and buildings.  
  • Awareness of climate-related frameworks and disclosure requirements, such as the Science Based Targets Initiative, CDP, the EU CSRD and ISSB. 

Skills / Competencies 

Essential: 

  • Ability to work independently and creatively on challenging problems.
  • High level of competence in the use of IT, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. 
  • Strong communicator in both verbal and written formats 
  • Proactive and inquisitive approach 
  • Strong research skills 

Desirable: 

  • GHG emission assessments 
  • Environmental life cycle assessments (LCA)  
  • Financial or technical modelling                             

Other requirements & attributes 

Essential: 

  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally (although role is predominantly desk-based)  
  • Able to present a professional appearance 
  • A passion for sustainability and accelerating climate action 

Desirable: 

  • Clean UK driving licence
