What you'll do

The Spectrum Engineering team is responsible for the optimal configuration of the satellite resources for the Viasat fleet, this is to ensure an efficient use of our satellite resources while maximising the revenue opportunities. For this purpose, the team constantly monitors the performance, traffic demands on the network, and service requirements to make sure that the network KPIs and SLAs are met.

The team also plans and configure the satellite resources to support a blend of Viasat Lease services. The lease services are constantly evolving as the company pursue new markets and opportunities. This development requires an agile response from the team in order to set up and configure the leases upon request to satisfy quick response times from the customer.

The day-to-day

The Spectrum Engineer Intern will work alongside the team of Engineers in a broad range of operational and troubleshooting activities such as data analysis, spectrum monitoring, improvement of operational software tools and process automation.

The role requires a responsible and well organised individual with an understanding of RF and modulation theory and excellent verbal and written communications skills. You will improve our software tools and automate processes, work through data analysis and troubleshooting activities, and work with the Engineers in the optimization and monitoring of the satellite resources.

Internship programme details

  • You will work onsite at the Viasat London office for the duration of your 12-13 week internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams (Note limited exceptions may be granted. Cohort 1: 17th June 2025 – 12th September 2025)
  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.

What you'll need

Education requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or equivalent in Mobile Communications/Telematics or in Mobile and Satellite Communications
  • To be eligible for this position you must complete your degree between December 2025 and Summer 2026

Additional requirements

  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Python programming, Pandas and matplotlib libraries

What will help you on the job

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Communications Engineering, preferably Satellite Communications.
  • Experience with Google Platform technologies including BigQuery.
