    Success in the Role

    What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

    You will work on the VMware Tanzu Labs App Services team helping customer product teams:

    • Deliver modern, mission-critical, cloud-native applications
    • Modernize existing legacy applications

    The Work

    What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

    You will be working on a cross-functional team, making decisions together with your teammates to quickly deliver valuable software to users. You’ll deliver working solutions that meet the current needs of our customers best. You’ll work in an environment that offers continuous learning and opportunities for self-reflection and feedback.     Our Software Engineers are generalists and you’ll be learning to

    • Build and modernize software based on a shared backlog
    • Pair Program with clients, along with VMware Tanzu Labs engineers enabling client engineers in Extreme Programming (XP) development and/or application modernization practices
    • Develop proficiency in one of our common programming languages and frameworks
    • Deliver high-quality, reliable, and maintainable code
    • Provide technical input on product, design, and architectural decisions (such as technical complexity and feasibility)
    • Manage risk and uncertainty while moving the team forward
    • Work with a cross functional team of product managers, designers, and engineers to enable your client team to go fast, forever

    What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

    The hiring manager for this role is Jonathan Sharpe, Engineering Delivery Lead at VMware Tanzu Labs App Services. Over more than a decade in technical consultancy, transport research and software development, he's built an expertise in navigating complex domains and delivering high-quality, high-value products. As a member of Jon's team, you'll have the autonomy to explore and help to solve our clients' problems and the support to stay focused on what's most valuable for you and your colleagues.

    The Tanzu App Services is an EMEA theatre, organized around three main offices in London, Paris, and Berlin. This role is aligned to the London office, and we expect a successful candidate to work in a hybrid model, able to attend the office at least once a week and also work productively on a remote basis.
