St Helens Council’s Policy and Transformation Graduate Scheme provides you with an opportunity to work across a range of council functions, to gain knowledge and experience of local government and work with internal and external stakeholders to shape major change and transformation. As a Graduate Policy and Transformation Officer, you will have the opportunity to work in several core council functions including policy and equalities, communication, and reputation management and the corporate programme management office. In this role, you will gain extensive knowledge in how local councils interact across regional and national footprints, liaising with important national organisations such as the Local Government Association to influence and shape future policy considerations. You will gain key project management skills and used these to help drive forward several major transformation programmes to modernise the council’s approach to how it interacts, provides support, and builds relationships with people.
You will also help showcase the council, working to promote positive activity and strengthen relationships with communities and residents and internally between directorates and departments. In this fast-paced area, you will learn about how the council deals with press and media enquiries as well as utilise social media to promote positive stories.

You will have a positive, can-do attitude, the ability to listen and clearly articulate conversation and discussion into tangible outputs and work as a team to support colleagues and internal customers in delivering their service priorities and ambitions.
