The Training Contract
Our policy is to recruit a small number of trainees so that each receives exceptionally high quality training. Our aim is to ensure that at the end of your training contract you will be competent and confident newly qualified solicitors with a genuine enthusiasm for your work.
The effectiveness of our training scheme is demonstrated by the fact that a significant number of our current partners completed their training contracts at Wedlake Bell and have remained with us for the duration of their careers. We are quick to recognise your talents and will provide you with an environment in which those talents can be utilised to their maximum potential.
We are currently recruiting eight trainees each year. We recruit two years in advance of the commencement of the training contract. All applicants must have achieved (or expect to achieve) at least an upper class second for their degree course.
The selection process
All applications are reviewed and selected candidates are invited to 1st interview and if appropriate, a secondary open morning which includes one further interview, a limited number of short written tests and a lunch. If you have not previously attended our summer vacation scheme, a second interview may be necessary. We will inform you whether you have been successful as soon as we can following your interview or interviews.
All offers for training contracts are subject to you passing the Legal Practice Course at the first attempt.
*Update on Training Contract Applications commencing in 2022 and 2023*
We will be extending the deadline for any additional applications for 2022 training contracts to April 2021. Therefore, applications for our 2022 and 2023 training contracts are now live and will close at midnight on 30 April 2021.
When submitting your application form, please ensure to confirm in the covering letter (within the application form) whether you are applying for the 2022 training contract intake, the 2023 training contract intake or both.
