The role
You’ll learn all about retail through an exciting 18-month programme in one of our Head Offices based in Swindon. We have exciting opportunities in our Commercial team. The 18 months will be split into placements to give you well-rounded development in that area. From spending time with our stores, our logistics teams and rotations on departments around the business before getting stuck into your specialism.
An example of our Commercial programme: You’ll spend an initial period learning all about Buying. It’s a chance to tackle a range of assignments and get an understanding of our business. You’ll be reviewing product ranges; conducting trials; meeting suppliers – and that’s just the start. Next up is a placement in a business area identified by you and us as being best suited to supporting your career progression. Finally, it’s the final placement where you’ll hone your project management skills overseeing an exciting live business project. This could be in almost any function depending on where your skills are needed most.

Who we’re looking for
At WHSmith, results and performance are key. You need to be self-motivated and highly commercial with strong numerical and analytical skills.
You will have a 2:1 degree (minimum) and graduated last year or be due to graduate this year, ideally in Retail or a Business-related subject. But what will really count is an entrepreneurial approach. Wherever you join and in whichever function, where you go from there is up to you. Choose your direction and develop your interests, and we’ll give you the support to progress.
