    Your new role, what's involved?

    The overall objective of this role is to provide support to the WSP’s Ground & Water (contaminated land) team. This role is specifically to support contaminated land assessment and remediation projects including significant periods of fieldwork.

    The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of projects, working closely with and being supported by team members, project managers and project directors. Activities will typically include investigating, assessing and remediating contaminated sites with a significant component of field works transitioning with time and experience towards factual and interpretative reporting, client liaison and project management.

    The position would suit a graduate with a background in Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Engineering Geology, Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or Geosciences. The role will require time both in the office and on-site. Site works are generally based locally but travel to and working on sites across the whole of the UK and potentially internationally may also be required.

    The individual will proactively demonstrate both personal and technical development by seeking out formal training and exposure to projects and different teams. A typical week would include (following appropriate training where necessary):

    • Phase 1 Desk Study researching and reporting;
    • Phase 2 Site Investigation design, supervision, soil sampling, soil logging, subcontractor management, human health/ water environment risk assessment and reporting;
    • Provision of adherence (with training) to best technical, engineering and health and safety practice including self and others at all times;
    • Communicating and liaising effectively and efficiently with clients, subcontractors and assisting/ working alongside the project team;
    • Operational assistance towards the delivery of project works, not restricted to contaminated land but also to supporting disciplines;
    • Delivery of tasks in a cost effective and timely manner.

    About you

    • You’ll be graduating in 2023 or you may have recently graduated with at least a 2:2 in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Geoscience, Geotechnical Engineering, or Civil Engineering. A relevant post-graduate qualification )advantageous, although not essential.
    • You'll be looking to start work in September 2023 or April 2024
    • You will have a full UK driving licence (or equivalent) - this is essential
    • You’ll ideally have less than 1.5 years relevant experience
    • You’ll be passionate with the curiosity and creativity to solve problems
    • You’ll want to stretch and inspire us, speaking up about any new ideas you have. You will also demonstrate attention to detail.
    • You’ll want to throw yourself in from day one and put your studies into practice
    • You’ll have excellent communication skills both written and verbal
    • You’ll enjoy working in a team environment, sharing ideas and collaborating with colleagues
    • You’ll have confidence to work under pressure with the ability to prioritise and plan effectively
    • Have the ability to use your initiative and be self-motivated.
    • Have the ability to learn quickly and be adaptable to change.
    • Have the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
    • Have the ability to effectively manage time.
    • Can build trust and sustainable support network.
