The role is for a Junior Land Consultant to join our growing Land & Property team, which sits as part of a 300 strong Planning Information Management team. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our expanding multidisciplinary service line within the Land & Property team in the delivery of Land acquisition, Land Access, Consents, Statutory Orders, Compensation Agreements and vital landowner management. Our clients develop major highway, rail, energy and water infrastructure, all of which impact privately owned land. You will work as part of a team of Land Consultants assisting in the liaison with landowners that may be affected by development, obtaining the appropriate consent, gaining access and where necessary compensating them for the impact caused by the scheme.
As a Junior Land Consultant, you will gather land information by searching various sources, interviewing landowners and their agents, researching land registry records and examining mapping from various sources and formats including GIS and CAD. You will gain experience working across a range of consent regimes including Development Consent Order (DCO) and Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) and we will support your professional development with a relevant professional organisation such as Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
What you'd do
- Site visits and meetings to confirm land ownership details and provide scheme updates
- Access agreements, wayleave agreements and all required consents
- Work closely in a team environment with our engineering, environmental, lands and referencing teams
- Creation of records of condition
- Maintaining a concise records of landowner issues and relaying there to project teams
- Assistance with progress reporting of land issues and attending weekly/monthly project and client meetings
- Negotiation of compensation claims
- Liaison with land agents, solicitors and other stakeholders.
- Land acquisition
- Negotiation of other land related agreements
What you'd need
- A degree in geography, property, planning, agriculture or a relevant discipline
- Ability to prioritise your workload in line with client requirements
- Accurate record keeping, written and communication skills
- Willingness to undertake occasional secondments, working directly with our clients
- Enthusiasm for continuous professional development, and professional accreditation
- Full driving licence essential
WSP is looking for a self-motivated individual with a talent for verbal and written communication; a good team player, strong work ethic and an eye for detail, quality and accuracy. You will need to be confident in a public facing role whilst conveying compassion and understanding to the landowner, as well as an ability to diffuse any conflict and tension that may arise. You should be comfortable working with computer equipment.
