Securing a graduate role with Vodafone - Top tips from Angharad

Created on 22 Jun 2017

Angharad recently secured a place on Vodafone’s Discover Graduate Programme after hearing about the role on the Bright Network website. She told us about the application process.

Why did you choose Vodafone’s Discover Graduate Programme?

The company's values suited mine, Vodafone do a lot for charity, and I felt that they put a lot of care and effort into their employees. I thoroughly enjoyed the assessment day; everyone was very friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere on site. The role seems really varied, which I'm excited about and the graduates I've spoken to who are already on the programme are really enjoying it and have had exposure to a range of responsibilities and teams.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

The toughest part of the application process was the online interview, just because video interviews can feel a bit strange and unnatural. My favourite part was definitely the assessment centre. The activities were challenging but really interesting and it gave me a really good idea of the working culture and atmosphere.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

There were no bad surprises during the process; the only surprise was finding out how much Vodafone do for charity and for other good causes, such as the TechSOS and M-Pesa programmes, which aren't mentioned much in the media.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

Be yourself. Know why exactly you want to work at Vodafone in particular. Prepare for the video interview by researching Vodafone, the role and the competencies that will likely come up given the stream you're applying for.

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

I like to have a chilled evening the night before, preferably with friends. And I listen to a couple of my favourite empowering songs just before.
