Anmol is a Computer Science student at Aston University. She secured an industrial placement role as a Digital Intern at The Walt Disney Company in London, through Bright Network.
First, please tell us a little bit about yourself.
“My role involves a lot of my Computer Science background (a subject I’ve studied since primary school, which is when I decided I wanted to study it at university), but also my creative side — something I’d hidden away until I got to university and became involved in societies as a Marketing and Events Executive.
When I was growing up, I was good at maths and technology, so I always wanted to be a Software Engineer. In the future, I may still go down that path, but for now, I’ve found roles that blend creativity and technology — and I love that.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“The Walt Disney Company was a name I heard during my GCSEs. I always loved the idea of working there but never thought I could actually make it.
It has a ‘casual yet formal’ corporate environment, which strikes an amazing balance — especially for someone in the early stages of their career.”
What was your application journey like?
“The application was shorter than I expected — I thought I’d have to go through more assessments.
I was surprised that the hiring team weren’t there to catch me out, but instead were very encouraging and helpful, especially when I showed a willingness to learn.”
How did Bright Network help you secure your role?
“I found the role on Bright Network! Internship Experience UK helped boost my confidence enough to actually apply to such a big company.
I didn’t have much industry work experience, so IEUK was one of my first internships and being selected as a Top 50 VIP intern was amazing!
The VIP event provided lots of tips on applications directly from recruiters, which was incredibly useful in helping me secure this placement.”
What have you learnt from going through the process?
“I’ve learnt that the skill of being able to talk about yourself and your achievements comes from attending lots of networking events and webinars where these things are taught.
Forcing yourself to come out of your shell, whether during a lecture or in another situation, has a huge impact on your ability to answer interview questions naturally rather than robotically.
Try not to stress, and relax even if you feel like you messed up — don’t let one mistake affect the rest of your application.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“I’d recommend attending as many Bright Network events as you can. And most importantly, apply for Internship Experience UK and give it your best shot!”
