Anna is a Politics and Philosophy student from the University of Birmingham. She secured a role as a Consultant Assistant Intern at RSM, through Bright Network. 
First, please tell us a little bit about yourself.
“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I love problem-solving and working with people, so consulting seemed like a natural career path.
I went to university to broaden my horizons and unlock opportunities, as I believe consulting offers a wide skill set and a breadth of experience.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“RSM has strong values around career progression and early development, which I think are really important in helping to build confidence.”
How did Bright Network help you secure your role?
“Bright Network allowed me to filter opportunities by field and location. I wouldn’t have been able to find suitable opportunities as effectively otherwise.”
What was your application journey like?
“I prepared by writing out common interview questions, planning my answers, and researching the company’s values.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“I’d recommend watching videos of other people’s assessment centre experiences, as it really helps you get a sense of what to expect.
My main advice would be to be yourself and try to relax as much as possible — the assessors are people too.”
What have you learnt from going through the application process?
“I learnt that the actual assessments were not as intimidating as people often make them out to be.
Consulting can be hard to break into, but everyone starts somewhere — I wish I’d known how understanding people would be.”
Tell us about the future. What’s next?
“I’m looking forward to starting my internship, learning more about the different sectors, and developing my communication skills in a corporate environment.”
