Graduate insight into securing an internship with Deloitte - Top tips from Amelia

Created on 5 Mar 2018

After attending Bright Networks Women in Leadership event, KCL student secured a summer internship at multinational firm Deloitte.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

Deloitte's reputation precedes it, and before I met their reps at the Bright Network Women in Leadership event I was actually a bit intimidated. The ladies I met were so lovely and supportive, though. I felt encouraged to apply and as though I could actually succeed in my career with them.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

The hardest part of the application was definitely the online tests. I always panic under pressure, anyway, but in the end they weren't as bad as I first thought. Deloitte also issues you with a personalised report highlighting your strengths and weaknesses (before you find out the outcome of your tests) and I found these really useful both personally and to show me which skills I needed to work on for other tests and applications I was completing at the time.

My favourite part was definitely the interview segment of the Assessment Centre. All the staff were so friendly, but I got on really well with my interviewer and even forgot I was at a formal interview. The staff at Deloitte made me feel so comfortable and at ease so I could be myself and not a bag of nerves.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

Relax, smile and be yourself.

Do you have a lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

A good nights sleep the night before!
