David is a Computer Science student from the University of Warwick. He secured a Technology Summer Analyst intership at Morgan Stanley in London, through Bright Network.
First, please tell us a little bit about yourself.
“It’s hard to reflect on or talk about my career path because I’m still early in my journey and have so much left to do. In my heart, I’d have loved to have been a football player, and it remains a big hobby of mine.
University always felt like the natural next step for me, especially due to the number of initiatives like insight days, spring weeks, and internships that are typically tailored towards undergraduate students.
I chose Computer Science because it’s something I believed I could become proficient in, and I saw it as a future-proof foundation for building a successful career.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“I was motivated to apply for the role after attending an insight day at the office. Everyone seemed so down-to-earth and approachable, and I also know a few people who have interned there before.
The firm’s reputation speaks for itself. From a technical point of view, I’ve long wanted to learn and apply my skills in an environment where the work truly matters.”
How did Bright Network help you secure your role?
“Through IEUK, I gained industry-specific insights that allowed me to explore my curiosities and demonstrate my initiative outside of my degree – all of which strengthened my CV.
The Top 50 VIP event, which followed my involvement in the process, was a major highlight. I was able to make friends and build connections, some of which I still maintain today.”
What are you most proud of about your journey?
“I’m most proud of going from having no internships to receiving an offer from a top firm.
I felt a lot of relief, as it’s something I’ve been working towards for the past couple of years. It also taught me a lot about resilience – not getting caught up in rejection but taking it on the chin. The right offer can make all the hard work feel worthwhile!”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“Leverage your network, and try to go out of your way to speak to others – even when it feels uncomfortable. Ask questions.
I understand that LinkedIn and networking can sometimes feel forced or inauthentic, but some of the connections you make can be life-changing, so it’s important to be intentional.”
Tell us about the future. What’s next?
“I’m looking forward to learning in a new environment and hope to make a strong impact – both technically and personally – by making lifelong friends and engaging in fun, intelligent conversations.
I also hope to develop a clearer understanding of my technical preferences, which will help inform my future career choices.”
