Erin is a Computing and Management student from Loughborough University. She secured a Information Technology Placement with GE Aerospace in Gloucester, through Bright Network. 
First, please tell us a little bit about yourself!
“I’m a second-year Computing student. I’ve been interested in coding since primary school, when I first began learning how to code using Scratch.
I’ve always aspired to be a leader and to run my own team, so I hope to achieve that in the future too.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“I was motivated to apply for the role because the company aligns with my values, and I believe I can truly learn and grow there.”
What was your application journey like?
“I was most nervous about the interview because it was scheduled to last an hour, and I wasn’t sure I could talk about myself for that long.
However, the interviewer made me feel comfortable, and I left the interview knowing I’d answered the questions to the best of my ability using the STAR method.
To prepare, I researched common interview questions online, so I had a rough idea of what to say and which experiences to draw on in certain scenarios.”
How did Bright Network help you secure your role?
“I only found out about the role through the Bright Network website, and I also used the site to help with my CV.
I’ve also taken part in Couch to Coder and attended virtual job fairs through Bright Network.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“Research the company you’re applying to – a question about company values is bound to come up during the application process.
Also, don’t lie on your CV! Be honest about the experience you have, and highlight your willingness to learn if you don’t have the exact skills they’re looking for.”
Tell us about the future. What’s next?
“I’m hoping to secure a project management graduate role once I finish university, and from there, just keep growing my career as much as I can.”
