Rosie is an Accounting and Business graduate from the University of Nottingham. She secured a graduate role as a Trainee Accountant at Enterprise Mobility through Bright Network.
First, we’d love for you to tell us a little about yourself.
“From visiting my parents at work, I’ve always wanted to work in an office environment. I found I enjoyed Mathematics and Business subjects and extra-curriculars at school, so decided that a career in finance and accounting would be best for me.
I didn’t want to entirely ignore my creative side, so I also studied English Literature and Art for my A-Levels and am always reading and watching TV in my free time.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“My partner went to university in Egham, and I fell in love with the area so that initially stood out to me about this job, and then of course the accounting aspect was exactly what I was looking for.
I liked that I’d be working in a UK branch of an American company and that I’d be able to liaise with and have international contacts.”
What have you learnt from going through the process?
“That I can do things that my head tells me I can’t!”
What are you most proud of about your journey?
“I took a year out of university part way through my course, and rejoining in 3rd year was really tough, especially as I didn’t know anyone. I feel very accomplished in succeeding in my final year and being able to graduate without any more hindrance.”
What was the application process like?
“I application process was pretty stress-free. I was contacted for an initial phone call, then I was offered an in-person interview. They emailed me tips for their interview process beforehand, so I had a general idea of what to expect.
The actual interview was formal, but friendly and I felt comfortable the entire time.”
How did Bright Network help you secure your role?
“Bright Network had the role advertised on their website, so I applied via their platform!”
“Additionally in my interview, I discussed Bright Network events I’d attended, such as International Womens Day 2023 and 2024 and IEUK 2024 too.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“Keep applying to jobs! You won’t hear back from so many of them, but don’t be disheartened, just keep applying and stay confident and self-assured.
As well as this, keep up with your personal development. Keep getting involved in things (such as Bright Network events!) that you can then add to your CV, talk about in interviews and that show your dedication in more than just academic ways!”
Tell us about the future. What’s next?
“I’m really excited to start my first “big job” and work towards my professional chartered accountant qualification.”
