Vinay's insight into securing a Consulting Development Analyst role with Accenture

Created on 29 Nov 2021

We recently caught up with Vinay about how they secured a Consulting Development Analyst role with Accenture, how they showed a passion for the company at their interview and their top tips for Bright Network members looking to follow in their footsteps.

What stood out to you about Accenture before securing your role?

Accenture tapping into a wide variety of industries and its involvement in technology is what really stood out to me.

What is the culture like at Accenture?

Accenture’s culture is super friendly. There is a sense of real collaboration and especially joining virtually, the collaboration has really made my joining experience seamless. Reaching out to anyone doesn’t seem scary.

How did you show you have a passion for Accenture at the interview?

My passion was shown with my knowledge of the company and what areas and industries Accenture have tapped into. This made it look to my interviewers that I haven’t just applied for the sake of it. I genuinely believed that the work Accenture does make companies grow and keep up with the data and tech revolution.

How did you build your commercial awareness before the interview?

The best way I did this was in two ways: Reach out to my network from university and LinkedIn and get their views on what Accenture is doing in the current day. Secondly, read the technology news (FT, Reuters etc.) and more likely than not Accenture will be on the front page with a new and exciting acquisition.

What's been the toughest interview question you've faced and how did you tackle it?

The toughest group of interview questions for me have been the competency questions. Although there is the S.T.A.R technique, coming up and thinking on the spot the most appropriate scenario was the hardest part. I always felt that I wanted to give a compelling scenario when answering any of those questions. Getting ready for these questions, every time an event used to happen in my life, I literally would go back home and write down the competencies I have used. So, over time I generated a list and during preparation recalling these events weren’t as hard.

How have you adapted to working virtually?

Working virtually has definitely got its benefits and drawbacks. As I’ve started Accenture virtually anyway, I can’t comment on how I’ve adapted, but I can comment on making the most of working virtually. Definitely, reaching out to people has actually been easier since usually, people don’t mind you putting time straight in their diaries for a chat. Having that face-to-face catchup would be more enjoyable although video calls aren’t so bad! Accenture’s offices are opening up more and more now, with chances to go into the office becoming more likely, which has lifted spirits for sure. I’m intending to go into the office by next week for the first time which is exciting!

What has been your working ‘highlight’ thus far?

The highlight so far has been working on an AWS project end-to-end. It was for a charity and really being able to try and help their cause using AWS has been very satisfying and great to be a part of. Not only this but since I’m quite interested in learning AWS in more detail, being able to get hands-on experience has been perfect rather than watching tutorials all day long.

What top three tips would you give Bright Network members looking to follow in your footsteps?

  1. Keep following Accenture News and its position within the technology world
  2. Reach out to your LinkedIn network
  3. Prepare, prepare, prepare for the assessment centre!
