Meet Lauren

We caught up with Lauren, Appointed Representative Analyst at Langham Hall

A woman with brown hair in a graduation gown

How did you decide what jobs to apply for after graduation? Did you always have a career path in mind?

As a law student I initially planned to pursue a career in commercial law as I enjoyed the structured nature of legal work, and I wanted the opportunity to engage with complex problem solving. However, as I learned more about the realities of the profession, particularly the long hours and limited work-life balance, I began to explore other paths that still offered intellectual challenge and variety – ultimately leading me to a compliance role.

What degree did you do, and how does it relate to your job?

Studying a law degree at university provided me with a strong foundation in interpreting complex information, critical thinking and written communication – all of which are vital to my role in compliance. These skills enable me to assess regulatory requirements, navigate unpredictable queries and communicate clearly with clients.

What does an Appointed Representative Analyst do and what tasks do you undertake?

As a compliance analyst on the appointed representative team, my role is to help clients who operate under Langham Hall’s regulatory permissions stay on top of their compliance obligations. On a day-to-day basis, I onboard new clients, handle queries from existing clients, and ensure they’re meeting regulatory expectations. There are also chances to take on more responsibility, like improving internal processes and even helping with business development during client pitches.

Why Langham Hall?

Langham Hall stood out to me due to it being a partner led firm and its strong focus on the apprenticeship model. Learning and teaching are genuinely prioritised, whether through formal training or leaning on the job. The smaller team size within the Appointed Representative team helps to ensure that you are entrusted with meaningful tasks quickly and have an overall wide exposure to a great variety of work. There has also been great encouragement to get involved in business development, which is quite rare at a junior level.

What were the first six months of your role like?

The first 6 months were both challenging and rewarding as I was trusted to contribute early on client work and gained confidence within the role through hands on experience. A focus on trainings alongside quick involvement with clients helped to support my learning and application of information in a field I was initially unfamiliar with. There was also a strong emphasis on my personal development throughout. I was encouraged to lead client calls when ready and quickly built strong relationships with both my team and my clients.

How do you see your career evolving at Langham Hall and what are your long-term goals?

I’m focused on continuing to build my technical expertise and becoming a trusted point of contact for clients. I’m also really interested in deepening my knowledge of the private funds space and learning more about the sectors our clients work in.

Do you have any recommendations for anyone who wants to pursue a career in the Private Funds sector/ Regulatory Hosting team?

The private funds sector can feel a bit overwhelming, especially if you’re starting out with little to no experience. But I’d say stay curious and be ready to learn—getting through the learning curve is part of the process. For the regulatory hosting team, it’s important to see the bigger picture of how compliance and the appointed representative piece fit into the broader landscape. That way, you’ll be able to offer a more well-rounded service to clients and continue expanding your understanding of the field.
