Our purpose is to connect for a better future – we want to create a digital society that empowers and connects millions of people globally. We want to ensure that our technology is a level-playing field for all, inclusive by all means and one that protects our planet.
Millions of people globally do not have access to banking services. Our M-Pesa service provides secure digital banking services to >41 million customers and we aim to connect more than 50 million to this service by 2025. So far, this service has lifted 2% of Kenyan households out of poverty and 185,000 women have been able to switch from subsistence farming to business or sales as their primary occupation.
As part of our promise to create and drive an inclusive society, since September 2020 we have pledged that a part of evaluating new suppliers will be based on their commitments to diversity, inclusion and the environment.
By July 2021, our EU network will be 100% powered by renewable energy and we have now committed to net zero carbon emissions by 2040.
