Admiral Money is an exciting, new division of Admiral Group. We have the freedom and innovation of a small start up with the security of a large parent company, Admiral.

The journey started when we launched unsecured personal loans in June 2017. We went on to be the first direct to consumer car finance provider in December 2017. Since then, we have gone from strength to strength and have some exciting plans for the future.

The role

The Data Management programme is responsible for creating, promoting and managing a data framework that ensures that the data is accurate, timely, compliant and secure.

This will involve establishing and embedding an organisation wide operating model; supporting processes and artifacts that people can follow; working with our compliance and risk teams to ensure the framework we put in place means we a compliant and safe by design; working with data providers and data consumers to ensure roles and responsibilities are understood.

The Data Associate will support the organization's data management efforts by working closely with the data manager to oversee data management processes.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting data management processes, as well as a strong attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with team members across the organization. You are curious and methodical, and someone who enjoys fixing things. You don't believe control means another governance forum and a believer that technology and good workflows create the safest environments. You love data and see the value it brings to the organisation and are passionate about creating a culture that values the data.

Key duties

  • Working with our dedicated colleagues across the business to understand their challenges with using the data and shaping these into improvements that we need to make to the data model or platform. This will also include working closely with our Group Data Protection team.
  • Support BAU activities for keeping documentation up to date, including the Register of Processing Activities (ROPA), Key Risk Indicators and other relevant updates..
  • Help select, design and implement the tools and processes we need to for end to end data management, e.g. data dictionary, ERD, data inventories, policies, risk register etc.
  • Design, embed and monitor our data management processes across the entire organisation to help us become truly Data Centric. This will involve establishing clear roles and responsibilities for managing data and engaging the Data Owners who play their part in improving our Data eco-system.
  • Ensure that the data our team are using is in line with the Dimensions of Data Quality so that we can be confident in all the decisions we make. This will include ensuring that any data quality issues are picked up, monitored and resolved.
  • Support the governance framework that ensures we have a compliant (GDPR, Data Protection etc), safe, secure and accurate set of data but is Agile and Automated by design. This will include below amongst other duties:
    • Ensure data protection laws and internal policies are being applied and support audits for these
    • Help monitor compliance with data protection laws and internal policies
    • Ensure ongoing maintenance of records required to demonstrate data protection compliance
    • Support data protection privacy impact assessments and ROPA updates
    • Support the data incident response and data breach notification procedures and ensure compliance with relevant requirements
    • Work with all relevant teams that we apply data management principals e.g. new data asset ingestion
    • Develop and support our KRI reporting
    • Help coordinate Data Owners and Data Steering Group, including supporting action log and minutes as well as appropriate engagement programmes

Essential skills

  • Self motivated and ability to identify issues and resolutions to business procedures
  • Engagement of wide range of business stakeholders
  • Technical capabilities to create processes and documentation, ideally through Confluence and Jira
  • Abilities to create framework that supports self-sustaining continuous improvement towards a business objective
  • Attention to detail, recording of information and clear communication

Desirables

  • Evidential knowledge of data privacy legislation in the UK, including GDPR
  • Experience in a similar type of role in financial services or similar multinational businesses
  • Experience in Agile ways of working is advantageous
  • Understanding of Data Management principles such as the DAMA Data Management model and the DCAM Data Maturity Assessments
  • Willing to learn our data ecosystem (AWS) to access and support the data processes.
  • Experience in managing data incidents and breaches
