About us

The Methods & Tools group is a cross-disciplinary team focusing on the invention of new methods and processes to radically improve the future of sustainable aviation, we also want to radically improve the way that we learn, work and play ! We are looking for a placement student that is not defined by discipline, but rather by his or her unique attitude, style and points of view. You can be a designer, inventor, scientist, scholar ,or any combination of these, as long as you are driven to make a positive impact.

The Methods & Tools group also defines new capabilities that supports the business to adapt to and comply with rapidly changing environmental, technological, legal and societal changes. Therefore our team has the opportunity to experiment with new ideas and think about what the future may look like. We consequently have the opportunity to shape the future. We are particularly interested in people that can see the bigger picture and make sense of complex interactions between disparate pieces of information. We use qualitative techniques such as systems thinking to set the scene and then use techniques from the mathematical sciences to quantify complex interactions. Some problems are too big for human comprehension and this is where the latest techniques from data-driven engineering are allowing us to make sense of a complex world. We would like our successful candidate to identify and apply an existing or new technological trend that may shape the future of data-driven design and engineering. This could be anything from new machine learning techniques to the analysis of how our aircraft are used in-service. It could also be a new idea that nobody has thought of yet. This is your opportunity to shape the future.

What you will be doing

As a successful candidate, your task will be to support the development and implementation of new techniques that can help us to make sense of this complex world. Your eventual task will depend on your interest and skill set, and will be defined after several discussions related to your areas of interest. We are particularly interested in people that are fascinated by Machine Learning, Statistics or Mathematics. Other areas such as the use of Gaming technology for engineering design is also of interest. You may also propose your own idea which will be supported if it fits in with our vision. You will also have the opportunity to gain a wider understanding of Airbus through activities and visits that are organized by HR.

Please note our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

  • Inquisitive and curious to learn about new things.
  • Self-starter but not afraid to ask if help is needed.
  • Be comfortable with problems that may not have a clear question or answer.
  • Be able to simplify complex problems into manageable information.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Collaborates well within a team.
  • Mathematical skills pertaining to data analysis would be a bonus.
  • Programming skills would be a bonus.
