Business Unit/Role Specific Info

Advanced Analytics: The AA team leverages and integrates machine learning and AI methodologies for business planning processes and capacity assessment. The team’s projects include forecasting, process optimisation, and cutting-edge analytics.

The specific job responsibilities will depend on the team you are selected in for a summer internship role. Broadly, the role may entail some of the below listed responsibilities:

  • Partner closely with our AA team to provide insights and create AI models which inform business planning processes and capacity decisions as well as actionable, insightful analytical solutions to help the leadership team evaluate and drive business performance
  • Collaborate extensively with colleagues to design and implement ML/AI & automation processes and strategies based on statistical, financial and economic analysis
  • Provide analytical support to customer experience through diverse projects
  • Integrate new data sources and capabilities to drive key business decisions

The Summer Internship Programme commences in June 2022 for 10 weeks. It consists of the following components

  • Introduction to American Express through an induction day and training sessions
  • Meaningful projects which will have real business impact
  • Regular Speaker Series with senior management
  • Social and networking events
  • Structured performance management process and regular feedback

Skills/Experience

  • Required experience in Python
  • Knowledge of SQL, Spark, Scala, SAS, Java, Hive, Yellow Brick, or R is advantageous
  • Quantitative background including Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Business
  • Passion for improving end-to-end customer experience, innovation and customer first thinking
  • Strong interest in digital space and ability to collaborate with technology and product partners
  • Independent thinker who’s organized, has great attention to detail, and can multi-task while still taking into account the big picture
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills – must have the ability to compile, analyze, research, and link complex issues
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels
  • Willingness to learn and master new systems

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree program (degree in quantitative field or equivalent experience in business, finance, statistics, economics, engineering or mathematics will be preferred) in your penultimate year of study.
