Launch your career with Arup

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, architects, consultants and technical specialists, working across every aspect of today's built environment. Together we help our clients solve their most complex challenges – turning exciting ideas into tangible reality as we strive to find a better way and shape a better world.

We are currently recruiting for Environmental Services Engineering (ESE) Summer Placement Students to join our Buildings teams.

ESE, also referred to as Public Health engineering, relates to the plumbing elements of building services engineering. This covers the drainage (rainwater and wastewater), water services, gas supplies, and fire protection systems of the building. This is an excellent opportunity for students that are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the buildings sector and/or sustainable water and drainage supplies, to join a multi-disciplinary team this summer.

You will provide support to project teams in delivering an excellent design service to our clients, experiencing first-hand how we operate. This will include preparing designs in co-ordination with the team, using relevant software, and gaining a thorough understanding of the role of a building services engineer. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will have the opportunity to work alongside Architects, Building Services Engineers (mechanical, electrical, ESE/public health), Civil/Structural Engineers and Project Managers.

What are we looking for?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:

  • Studying a BEng or MEng in Mechanical, Architectural or Building Services Engineering
  • On track to achieve a 2:1 or above, as proven through the modules that you have completed to date
  • Demonstrate strong motivation and passion for a career in design of the built environment
  • Passionate about ways to make the built environment more sustainable
  • Ideally graduating in Summer 2023

Arup's Summer Internship opportunities typically run for 6-8 weeks. You must be available to start this opportunity during Summer 2022 and commit to completing the programme in full.
