On this year long Industrial Placement you'll work alongside skilled professionals and from day one you will be working on real life meaningful projects - adding add value to clients, while exploring challenges with curiosity and creativity.  
 
You'll learn from others and begin creating your professional network ready for when you graduate. There are regular learning sessions with our leadership team, opportunities for site visits to local projects and all kinds of social events that will support your learning and development. 

Our aim is to welcome as many students back into our other programmes, be that another internship or potential graduate position. This placement is the stepping-stone to your future. 

Teams available within Water

Catchment Science & Geomorphology

As part of our Water Environmental and Catchment Science team, you will help us in delivering professional advisory and technical services for a range of clients on schemes across the whole water cycle. . Key areas we work in include catchment science and management,  flood and coastal risk management, , natural flood management, river restoration, river and reservoir engineering,  and water resource l management.  

Candidates should be working towards a bachelor's and / or master's degree in Physical Geography, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering (or equivalents), ideally with an orientation towards the water environment and river/catchment management. 

Civil and Environmental Agency

Key areas we work in include: changing climate, asset management, catchment science and management, dams and reservoirs engineering, flood and coastal risk management, integrated drainage network modelling – 1D, 2D water modelling, natural flood management and river restoration, river and waterway engineering, water environmental management and River Health – making our waterways cleaner, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and green infrastructure, wastewater infrastructure and treatment, water resources management, water treatment and supply.

We are looking for candidates who are working towards a bachelor's and / or master's degree in civil or coastal engineering, geography, environmental science or mathematics.  

Hydrology & Hydraulic Modelling 

Arup's water team has wide-ranging skills spanning advisory and specialist technical services. We consider the commercial, economic, environmental and social implications of projects.  

Key areas we work in include: catchment science and management, dams and reservoirs engineering, flood risk management, integrated drainage modelling and network rehabilitation, asset management, and climate change studies. Other key areas of work include natural flood management, river and waterway engineering, wastewater infrastructure and treatment, water resources management and water treatment and supply.

We are looking for individuals studying towards a Bachelors in Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering (or equivalent)ideally with some degree of specialism towards catchment science predicted 2:1 or above.

Water Consultancy 

We deliver schemes across the whole water cycle; from catchment and flood risk management to water treatment works.  This includes working for a range of clients such as environmental regulators like to Environment Agency, and water companies, to local councils and transport authorities.  Key areas we work in include hydrology and hydraulic modelling. resilience and our adaption to a changing climate, asset management, catchment management, flood risk management, integrated water management, including drainage network modelling and wastewater infrastructure and treatment. 

We are looking for candidates who are working towards a bachelor's and / or master's degree in civil engineering, geography, environmental science, mathematics or equivalent. 

Waste Water 

You will gain a thorough understanding of your role as you work collaborate with a diverse range of Arup colleagues in specialisms such as water and wastewater treatment, river and coastal engineering, site development, sustainability and environmental planning.

We expect our you to join us in site visits, assist in specifying and interrogating survey information for use in solution development; appraise options and support the production of business cases; contribute in feasibility studies and technical reports; help create digital solutions to manipulate, analyse and report on large and complex datasets; and aid the team in carrying out assessment, preliminary and detailed engineering design, including specifications.

We are looking for candidates who are working towards a bachelor's and / or master's degree in civil engineering.

Rivers & Coast 

Key areas we work in include: our adaption to a changing climate, asset management, catchment science and management, dams and reservoirs engineering, flood and coastal risk management, natural flood management and river restoration, river and waterway engineering, water environmental management, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and green infrastructure.

We are looking for candidates who are working towards a bachelor's and / or master's degree in civil or coastal engineering or similar.   

Civil Water Quality 

Key areas we work in include: resilience shift; our adaption to a changing climate, asset management, catchment science and management, dams and reservoirs engineering, flood and coastal risk management, integrated drainage network modelling – 1D, 2D and 3D water modelling, natural flood management and river restoration, river and waterway engineering, water environmental management and River Health – making our waterways cleaner, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and green infrastructure, wastewater infrastructure and treatment, water resources management, water treatment and supply.

We are looking for candidates who are working towards a bachelor's and / or master's degree in civil or coastal engineering, geography, environmental science or mathematics.
