Job description

To support in the provision of advice to Assystem and our customers on matters concerning the management of radioactive and non-radioactive wastes including, but not limited to, the characterisation, management, production, storage, packaging and consignment of waste.

The job holder will be involved in the delivery of Best Available Technique (BAT) approaches to waste management, project (or facility) waste management plans, environmental impact assessments, land remediation and land quality studies and sustainability reporting in waste and decommissioning activities. In addition to this, support will be required in the preparation of bids and interfacing with customers. The job holder will support the development of characterisation plans and the interpretation of data, this will include radiochemical, radiometric and more conventional chemical analysis.

The role holder will develop their knowledge in waste management and facility characterisation with a view to developing their role into either a Waste Engineer or Characterisation Engineer.

The role will be deployed across several business areas including Decommissioning, New Build and operational nuclear facilities and will report to the Technical Director for Waste and Characterisation.

Essential

  • Successful Candidate must be a UK Sole National
  • Successful Candidate must be willing to relocate as part of their rotational Scheme (Relocation Package available)
  • Bachelors Degree in a scientific or engineering-based subject

Desirable

  • Knowledge of land quality and land remediation
  • Knowledge of dose assessments
  • Knowledge of environmental risk assessments and safety cases (GRR, SWESC)
  • Knowledge of decommissioning
  • Knowledge of waste strategy
  • Knowledge of dangerous goods
  • Knowledge of laboratory practices
  • Knowledge of health physics instrumentation

Security Clearance

The successful applicant must be a UK resident and, due to the nature of the work to be undertaken, applicants will be required to meet this criteria in order to attain a minimum level of BPSS clearance.
