The Building Design Practice has an opportunity to recruit an Assistant / Graduate Building Surveyor into our expanding Exeter team. The role would suit a candidate who is looking to develop their career alongside a team operating in a multi-disciplinary environment and delivering a full suite of building surveying services. We can offer extremely varied and interesting work with a number of high-profile clients across sectors including local & central government, commercial and residential sectors.

Our need to recruit comes from the success of our Practice and the expected growth across a variety of sectors during 2022 and beyond. This position will enable you to work within an internationally renowned design and engineering consultancy, working on a variety of different sized projects across the South-west and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out measured and condition surveys, inspections, schedules etc and the overall management of minor works projects in the South-west.
  • Responsibility, under minimum supervision, for smaller projects and assistance on major projects with supervision and support where required.
  • Design and specification writing including the preparation of drawings, schedule of works, specifications etc.
  • Attendance at / and leading on meetings with clients and other technical specialists.
  • Contributing technical skills and knowledge to the team in order to maintain and improve the quality of our work and the expertise of our people.
  • Managing the client relationship and service delivery on a project-by-project basis in conjunction with senior colleagues.
  • Assisting with the development of new and repeat business where possible.

Requirements

  • Building Surveying degree (or equivalent qualification).
  • Ability to demonstrate good all-round surveying knowledge / expertise.
  • Desire to develop a career within a consultancy environment.
  • Committed to work towards RICS APC and ultimately Chartered status.
  • Good team working skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter able to work independently.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Good IT skills, MS Word and Excel as a minimum. Knowledge of CAD systems would be an advantage, primarily AutoCAD. NBS Chorus and REVIT being desirable.
  • Full understanding of the importance of Health and Safety requirements.
  • Driving Licence, own car preferred but not essential.
