What we do
We've been in the Nuclear and Power sector for over 50 years delivering over 7 million workhours.
This makes us the most prominent Nuclear New-Build organisation in the UK and in the world. In this role, you'll work end-to-end on a broad range of projects with plenty of challenging and rewarding opportunities to grow and develop.
These are some examples of the projects we deliver and will be delivering for the next 10 years:
- Hinkley Point C – Atkins is one of the major suppliers in the design and construction of HPC site. We are growing our team on site, and we are seeking for leaders and people that can drive change for one of the biggest construction sites in the world.
- Sizewell C – Atkins is the main civil works designer for Sizewell C, delivering from enabling works and site establishment, to detailed design of the nuclear buildings.
- Fusion – Atkins is part of the ENGAGE consortium, delivering civil and structural services for ITER. In addition, Atkins is involved in the UKAEA STEP and HEAT fusion programmes supporting the development of the Fusion technology in the UK.
- Small Modular Reactors - Atkins is the Civil, Structural and Architectural designer for the SMR programme. Transforming large complex infrastructure programme into a fully integrated factory built nuclear power plant with a relentless focus on modularisation. Using a combination of best in practice with innovative construction products and methods.
- We are also closely involved in nuclear generation; focusing on maintenance and life extension of the existing generating fleet of power stations, as well as nuclear decommissioning; the safe dismantling of redundant power stations. These two markets offer unique opportunities benefitting from an innovative mindset achieved using your technical and practical skillset.
Net Zero – We are involved in storage facilities and offshore wind projects across the world.
Linked to our wide portfolio of projects, we can offer a wide variety of work diet:
- Site construction support across different sites, our major site being HPC.
- Design of enabling works and general civils projects for power stations.
- Safety case support, producing the design substantiation for Nuclear power plant safety and seismically classified structures.
- Specialist support and technical issues resolution, pushing the boundaries of the codes and using detailed FE analysis.
- Building design, from layout concept design to full detail design, working closely with other disciplines.
- Access to world class technical specialist and mentors to support and develop your career.
- Digital is at the core of all of what we do, and we try to push the boundaries on how we deliver our projects using laser scan technology, drones, and 3D/4D modelling.

Your purpose
Are you a recent civil engineering graduate still looking for your ideal role? Are you looking for chartership support and interesting roles? If you thrive on working on exciting projects and have interest in the Nuclear sector then we want to hear from you.
We are looking for junior engineers to join our growing Power New Build team to support a wide range of nuclear projects (from Hinkley point C to fusion research projects!). You will be working within our design teams to complete exciting client secondments or delivering design projects in-house. This is an exciting time in the Nuclear Industry with large projects such as Hinkley Point C due to start commissioning soon, and other nuclear projects such as Sizewell C in the pipeline.
