Many of the systems that we create are driven by our own high-performance software. From harsh environments to complex architectures and strict information assurance, our software needs to be proven, reliable and fully integrated. This programme will teach you how to achieve this for everything from a desktop application to a handling system on a world-class ship.

Software Engineering at Babcock

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll need to look at the big picture and understand how the software interacts with the system and its interfaces. You could be working on a huge variety of different projects. You could focus on something as small as an audio console for a communications project. Or you could work on something as large as a handling system on a world-class ship. Whatever you work on, you may  be closely involved in the design, specification, implantation  and testing of software and associated systems.

What you'll need

  • A 2:1 BEng/BSc (Hons) degree, ideally accredited by the IET and IMechE
  • For Plymouth, you must have a minimum of a 2:2 in a relevant degree
  • To be able to satisfy the MoD and our customer’s security requirements (you may need to complete a medical assessment)

What you'll get

When you’re part of the team at Babcock, we think it’s only right that you’re properly rewarded for the contribution you make and the hard work you put in. That’s why, in addition to a highly competitive salary, you can look forward to generous pension and employee share schemes, and a whole host of other flexible benefits. These include things like access to our healthcare cash plan, Wellbeing Centre and discounts on everything from gym membership and travel to retail, dining and entertainment. You’ll also have the chance to get involved in our STEM outreach and volunteering activities, which our graduates find incredibly rewarding in all sorts of other ways.

Your career development

As part of this programme, the range of work you’ll cover will help you figure out where you excel. Once you know that, we’ll help you go as far as you can, supporting you as you work towards Incorporated or Chartered status.
