Balfour Beatty are recruiting a Graduate Engineer to join the team to deliver the Offshore Marine works for Hinkley Point C.

It is a complex first of its kind marine engineering project to support the construction of the first new nuclear power station built in the UK in a generation, at Hinkley Point.

As a Graduate Engineer working for Balfour Beatty you will be joining a community of 750+ (and growing!) Early Careers personnel around the UK already enrolled on the Balfour Beatty Early Careers Programme.

What you'll be doing

In this Graduate Engineering role, you will play a key part in planning and overseeing the offshore works for the Hinkley Point C project. Balfour Beatty is responsible for constructing three tunnels at Hinkley Point C to supply cooling water to the reactors and discharge it to the Bristol Channel. The offshore works include installing concrete heads in the Bristol Channel and constructing shafts through these heads to connect the tunnels. This is followed by flooding the tunnels through the shafts and capping off the heads to complete the system.

You will primarily work from the office in Avonmouth, Bristol supporting the works, as well as gaining experience on site / offshore ensuring the works are delivered correctly and safely.

Key duties

  • Support the team to develop construction methodologies, risk assessments and programmes.
  • Monitoring of the works to ensure they are completed safely and correctly.
  • Report progress and performance of the relevant works to the wider construction team.
  • Engage with the supply chain, providing them with support and guidance to complete associated works.
  • Help to ensure complete and accurate records of the works are kept.
  • Work closely with the site team to ensure effective team work and coordination.
  • Preparation of technical reports.
