The Story Society, an ambitious team of researchers led by the world’s first Professor of Story, Prof. Bambo Soyinka, are recruiting a new Research Assistant. We are after someone to support in undertaking research and creative development relating to our key themes, activities and Investment Principles. We need someone with legal and/or research experience who demonstrates a clear commitment to contributing to the research environment and is able to facilitate our governance and reporting requirements within our programmes.
About you
We are recruiting for a Casual Grade 5 Research Assistant, specialising in Governance and Engagement. The Research Assistant will support Professor Soyinka and her team to undertake research and creative development relating to our key themes, activities and Investment Principles. The Research Assistant will primarily work on the Paper Nations Programme, but they may be asked to support on aspects of technical writing for StoryArcs.
Key skills
- A minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant discipline is essential.
- Proven experience or qualification such as a Master’s degree in a related field, such as Creative Writing, Music, Arts, Science, Philosophy or Business, would be desirable.
- Knowledge of GDPR rules and regulations is key to this role.
- Proven experience in legal or governance work, in the field of research or nongovernmental organisation operations, is desirable.
- Proven research experience in a relevant subject area of working with diverse communities, with creative writing communities and/or within the creative writing sector. Extensive knowledge and research experience in a relevant field.
- Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication skills.
- Proven problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and other relevant IT skills.
- Experience of contributing to the writing of documents of a publication standard.
- Experience working in, and a clear commitment to contributing to, the research environment.
- Proactive independent attitude.
- Ability to work in a team, inspiring and collaborating with colleagues.

The Story Society is an international research centre and team based at Bath Spa University led by Director Bambo Soyinka, the world’s first Professor of Story. The Story Society investigates and maps the many uses and values of ‘Story’ across cultures, and is home to several innovative programmes including StoryArcs, Paper Nations and the Story Foundry.
