Silent Witness

BBC Studios’ award-winning crime drama Silent Witness follows a team of forensic pathologists at The Lyell Centre, led by pathologist extraordinaire Dr. Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) and Forensic Scientist Jack Hodgson (David Caves). Together, they navigate their way through twisted crime scenes, dodgy evidence, and shady characters.

Each action-packed episode sucks you into a world of crime, science and justice, while shining a light on today's pressing social issues through a diverse range of characters and adrenaline-filled, heart-pounding action. Since its debut in 1996, Silent Witness has been a global success and we're excited to keep the momentum going, ahead of the show’s exciting move to the West Midlands later this year.

What is a Junior Production Manager?

The Junior Production Manager is responsible for managing the production on a day to day basis as part of a team, ensuring the delivery of accurate budgets and production planning in a demanding and changing environment.

Main responsibilities

  • Assisting with scheduling, budgeting and managing the production in line with divisional requirements
  • Assisting with identifying and sourcing appropriate resource and location requirements for the production at the earliest possible stage
  • Assisting in ensuring compliance with BBC policies, guidelines, legislative and regulatory requirements, in order to minimise the BBC’s exposure to risk and to deliver value for money through effective and efficient management of people and resources
  • Assisting in ensuring all necessary rights are acquired for the complete delivery of the production, escalating any issues at the earliest stage
  • Responsible for preparing, managing and monitoring production budgets, and for forecasting and reporting progress in line with best practice, whilst also contributing to and assessing financial viability of content ideas that may arise during production
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment at all times, escalating any issues or areas of concern
  • Assisting efficiently and effectively deploying approved technologies on the production
  • Assist and liaise with Asset Management on IT requirements both in the office and on location, and ensuring that those who are joining, moving or leaving the department are equipped appropriately with the correct IT
  • Assist, contribute to and help to implement practical actions to reduce environmental impact throughout production

Are you the right candidate?

To be successful in this role, you would be required to demonstrate the following passion, experience and knowledge:

  • Demonstrable experience as a Production Coordinator/Assistant Production Coordinator
  • Experience of contributing to and delivering productions across a range of output or genres, on time and on budget
  • Experience of monitoring and managing health and safety on a production
  • Ideally have recognised formal health and safety training (including risk assessment)
  • Demonstrate strong organisational and planning skills and manages conflicting demands to meet deadlines
  • Able to manage interpersonal relationships effectively and work collaboratively within a diverse team
  • Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective relations with a wide range of contacts
  • Able to proactively devise new ideas for working more efficiently

Package description

  • A 6 week Fixed Term Contract
  • salary of £34,645 per annum (which is pro rata’d to length of contract) plus a £300 per week towards subsistence and travel
  • Access to a Training Manager to supporting your development
  • Training and Mentoring by industry professionals
  • 26 days of annual leave per annum (which is pro rata’d to length of contract)

Please note: the interviews will be taking place during the week of the 27th of May 2024, with 2 roles available during the weeks of the 27th of June to the 1st of August and then during the weeks of the 8th of August and the 13th of September 2024, with a prep week required the week before each block
