All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months. All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance is provided for the internship program.

The role

The summer intern position is based at the Bio-Techne Bristol site, home of the Tocris Bioscience brand. The team in Bristol specialize in the manufacture of high-quality small molecules and chemical tools for researchers within the life science industry. The successful candidate will join the vibrant and dynamic innovation team, responsible for the research and development of next-generation compounds that enable high-impact, breakthrough discoveries at the forefront of global scientific research. The successful candidate will be required to take a lead on an exciting new project investigating the performance and stability of compounds within the fluorescence imaging portfolio. With full support from wider innovation team, the candidate will be required to design experiments to determine fluorescent dye stability under different conditions and using appropriate scientific equipment, be able to perform routine photometric analysis and report relevant scientific results.

Qualifications

In addition to the main project, the candidate will be involved in all aspects of product development within the fluorescence imaging team. This may include literature/patent research, compound design and retrosynthetic analysis, chemical synthesis and purification, and product finishing and stock preparation. The candidate will also be expected to participate in other activities related to the innovation team such as presenting at team meetings and there may also be opportunities to engage with other parts of the wider business. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in a pertinent project within a leading life-science company as well as having the ability to gain meaningful experience in all aspects of small molecule product design and development.

Program Requirements:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the internship
  • Must be able to work full-time during the duration of the internship program
