We are excited to announce a new opportunity for a Research Assistant to join the School of Social Sciences at Birkbeck, University of London. You will work closely with Dr Jasmine Bhatia on projects related to the fall of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in August 2021 and Taliban governance in the years since.

Part-time position until 1 June 2025. Opportunity to contribute to significant research projects.

What you will do

As a Research Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with secondary data collection and literature reviews
  • Organising and conducting interviews
  • Reviewing transcripts for accuracy
  • Assisting with social media analysis
  • Contributing to written outputs and grant applications.

About you

The ideal candidate for the Research Assistant role will have:

  • Specialist knowledge of the Afghan context
  • Fluency in English, Dari and Pashto
  • Experience in academic or professional communications and research
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in standard computer packages
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • A postgraduate degree or equivalent.

Remuneration

£20.35 per hour, Grade 6 on the College's London Pay Scale, which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance that applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
