What is Bright Network Technology Academy? 

Technology Academy is a career accelerator for the next generation of tech.  

Designed from the ground up to support Bright Network members from all backgrounds into tech, Technology Academy will take you from tech curious to an established junior technologist in just 12-24 months.  

It all starts with 13 weeks of software engineering training, followed by the opportunity to interview for a job placement at our leading partner firms. If successful, we’ll support you for 12-24 months to ensure you kickstart your tech career.

Software Engineering Career Accelerator – August 2024 Cohort 

Our Software Engineering Career Accelerator is an end-to-end programme for highly driven Bright Network members who want to start a career in software engineering but don’t have a degree in Computer Science.  

Below, you will find all the information you need to apply for our next cohort. 

 

Key Details 

  • Start date: Monday 12th August 2024 

  • Length: 13-weeks training + 12-24 month job placement 

  • Salary: £30k OTE (if successful in gaining a job placement) 

  • Time commitment: Full Time (09:00-17:30 Mondays to Fridays) 

  • Training cost: Free 

  • Training format / location: Virtual (UK-based) 

  • Job placement locations: London, Scotland, South West of England and North of England

How it works 

Our career accelerators are split into two phases to give you the best possible chance of successfully launching a career in technology: 

  • Phase 1: Intensive remote training bootcamp 

  • Phase 2: Job placement in a tech team at one of our leading partners 

 

Software Engineering Phase 1: Bootcamp (13 weeks) 

It all starts with our 13 week intensive remote bootcamp. 

Throughout the bootcamp, our dedicated and caring training team will teach you code craft. Transforming your curiosity and passion for tech into tangible tech skills that will lay the foundations for your career in software engineering. 

Key areas that you’ll be trained in include:  

  • Frontend development 

  • Software engineering fundamentals 

  • Web development fundamentals 

  • JavaScript and React 

  • Java and Spring 

  • SQL and NoSQL 

  • Data structures and algorithms 

In addition to this, we’ll teach you essential collaboration, communication, problem-solving and project management skills that you need to thrive in tech. 

Upon completion of the bootcamp, you’ll graduate with a Tech Industry Gold award. 

 

Software Engineering Phase 2: Job placement (12-24 months) 

Following bootcamp, the top graduates from each class are given the chance to interview for software engineering roles in a range of tech disciplines at our leading partners across the UK. 

If successful in getting a placement, you’ll be given a salary of £30k OTE (location dependent) and we’ll continue to support you for up to 24 months with dedicated 1:1 support from one of our Talent Managers who are there to support you every step of the way. 

 

Who we are looking for 

We are looking for individuals ready to start their journey towards being a Software Engineer. You don’t need any specific tech knowledge to join our career accelerator, but you have to be ready for the challenge of kickstarting an exciting new career 

 

Key criteria 

  • A recent graduate in any degree discipline  

  • Clear passion and curiosity for technology 

  • A team player with strong collaboration skills 

  • Resilience, drive and a belief that you can make it into tech with the right support 

  • Available to start full time and commit to a structured 24-month career accelerator 

  • Openness to working in/relocating to locations across the UK (roles with Technology Academy can be in London, Scotland, Bristol and the North of England) 

 

Desirable criteria 

  • Ability to demonstrate prior interest in Software Engineering through self-learning, societies, courses, or jobs etc. 

  • An expert problem solver and enjoy working through challenges with complex information 

  • Logical and process minded – breaking down tasks to their component pieces to understand the best route forward 

  • Enjoy data and understanding how it can be used to drive businesses forward 

  • Detail orientated and are happy to search through your work to find areas for improvement or identify bugs in your code 

  • Love learning and broadening your skill sets 

  • Thrive in ambiguity and show tenacity in overcoming unfamiliar situations
