A vacation scheme is a great way for you to experience life at Burges Salmon and see whether it could be right for you. It's also an excellent opportunity for us to get to know you and help shape your career.

Every year we run a winter vacation scheme (one week), a spring vacation scheme (two weeks) and two summer vacation schemes (two weeks each), which are open to anyone who is eligible to apply for a training contract – regardless of your degree discipline or the length of time since you graduated.

  • Spring vacation scheme: 11-22 April 2022
  • Summer vacation scheme 1: 6-17 June 2022
  • Summer vacation scheme 2: 20 June - 1 July 2022

All vacation scheme attendees will be offered a training contract interview.

If your application is successful you will be invited to attend an assessment centre at our office in Bristol on 14, 16, 17, 21 or 22 February 2022.  If you are unable to attend on these dates, we will not be able to progress your application.

During your two-week vacation scheme, you’ll gain a real insight into our award-winning law firm.

What you'll do

  • work in two departments of your choice
  • get involved in ‘real’ work
  • have the chance to go to client meetings and visit court
  • attend skills sessions run by trainees and solicitors
  • get to know colleagues up and down the firm through social and sports events.

What we're looking for

What all of our people have in common is an enthusiasm for the law and a drive to deliver top quality work for our clients. You’ll also need:

  • Academics: a 2:1 degree in any discipline.
  • Ability to work within a team: we have a collaborative culture so an ability to work well with colleagues and clients is essential.
  • Drive and resilience: becoming a solicitor is hard work. We want to see people who are proven self-starters and are able to overcome setbacks.
  • Analysis and judgement: our work can be complex and demanding. We need people with analytical minds who aren't afraid to share their own opinions.
  • Communication: we are looking for people who can convey complicated messages easily and efficiently.
  • Common sense: we are looking for people with an ability to apply their legal knowledge in a practical way that is useful for our clients.
