From the first appraisal of the site, through to the completion of construction, safety and economy are our guides. BuroHappold’s ground engineering team provides Clients with a capability that spans structural, building, civil and environmental engineering. We operate an integrated ground engineering approach where our geotechnical and geoenvironmental specialists work together in multi-disciplinary teams throughout the UK and across the BH world including the US and the Middle East.

From the earliest stages of your projects you can be assured of our capability in managing all aspects of ground engineering.  This includes contaminated land as well as foundation designs for all forms of building and civil engineering structures.

What sort of projects would I work on?

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - BuroHappold was Engineer for the new stadium and the ground engineering team were responsible for designing and analysing all the foundations and retaining walls for the new stands.  This included site supervision and validation to ensure that the super-structure will perform for the life-time of the stadium.

Battersea Power Station - The BH ground engineering team carried out complex analyses and design work to re-purpose the original power station foundations together with new piled foundations to carry the very different loads from the new internal structure.  The ground engineering work also included contamination assessments and construction supervision working with contractors to ensure a successful outcome.

New Compton and Edrich Stands, Lords - Two new large stands are to be constructed over the top of an original brick sewer and around the foundations of the previous structures.  The ground engineering team have developed a viable scheme which allows for these different challenges.  The team also carried assessments to ensure there was no significant risks of contamination in the ground before the original stands were demolished.
